Super League champions Basel were held to a 2-2 draw by Lucerne at St Jakob Park. The meeting between the teams who finished top and second last season was predictably tight, with the visitors twice leading before having to settle for a point. Dario Lezcano put Lucerne in front after 18 minutes and again 21 minutes into the second half after Alexander Frei's equaliser. However, Marco Streller had the final say, scoring Basel's second nine minutes from time. Newly-promoted St Gallen joined Basel in taking four points from their opening two fixtures with a 1-0 win at Lausanne. Ezequiel Scarione grabbed the only goal shortly before the half-hour mark.
