The bicycle riding season will begin with the holiday titled “Velobulvar” in the Russian capital on Saturday. The organizers said that the holiday aims to popularize this ecologically friendly kind of transport. “This is the first large-scale event, which brings together Moscow bicyclists, representatives of the bicycle communities, all interested Muscovites and guests of the city,” the Moscow transport department said. The bicyclists will be able to take a ride on the boulevards closed for the traffic from the noon until 20:00 Moscow time on Saturday. They can also participate in the festive events at the Moscow courtyards. The holiday “Velobulvar” will start from the Soviet Army Theatre. The bicyclists can ride freely from the Suvorovskaya Square to the Strastnoy Boulevard, along the Strastnoy, Petrovsky, Tsevtnoy boulevards, on the Olympiisky Avenue to the Durov Street, on the Durov Street to the crossroads with the Olympiisky Avenue to the Institutsky Bystreet, on the Suvorovskaya Square, Samotechnaya Street and further on the Tsevtnoy Boulevard. All people can participate in the bicycle ride. On the program of the bicycle holiday is a bicycle quest, BMX shows, a dancing flash mob, a bicycle circus, a test drive for the velomobiles and many other events. A bicycle market will be also opened to sell new products for the bicyclists. A bicycle flea market will be opened for any people to sell their old bicycle devices. A book market will sell the literature on bicycle topics. The children’s riding grounds “RunBike” will be opened for young bicyclists. Children will be able to ride runbikes there and attend the master classes. A presentation of exclusive city bikes, accessories and the drawing of a bicycle will be held at the velocafe. The participants of the holiday will be able to attend the master classes for bicycle tuning, a lecture for the bicycle movement in Russia and other countries, the installations of modern painters and to watch the performances of professional bicycle stunt makers and circus stunts with bicycles. No less than 10,000 people are expected to participate in the Velobulvar holiday. A concert will highlight the holiday on the Suvorovskaya Square. Source: Itar-Tass
