Toulon scrum-half Michael Claassens will join the Natal Sharks on a two-year deal after the completion of the European season, said the South African franchise on Monday.
Claassens, 32, joined the Top-14 giants in 2013 after six years in England but failed to have a significant impact in the south of France.
"Michael Claassens is an experienced scrum-half who will add great value and depth to our squad as well as mentor our very talented young scrum-halves. He has been playing well for Toulon and we look forward to welcoming him to the black and white", said Sharks CEO John Smit.
The former Cheetahs and Lions player, who played for the Springboks eight times, is preceded in Durban by former stalwart flank Jean Deysel, who has agreed to return from Japan.
The Sharks Super Rugby campaign kicks-off on Saturday against the Cheetahs at Kings Park.
