Czech tennis player Lucie Safarova, 16th in WTA rankings, won her seventh WTA singles title at the Prague Open here on Saturday, beating Australian Samantha Stosur, 25th in WTA rankings, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the final.
Due to illness, the 29-year-old Safarova did not win any of her singles matches this year before the Prague Open.
At the winning ceremony, Safarova said that she was so touched that she did not know what to say. She said she was lying in bed and could not move six months ago. The atmosphere in the finals was amazing.
Top-seeded Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova (13th in WTA rankings) did not play the semifinal against Stosur due to an abdominal muscle strain.
