Jason Day says patience and a little bit of tunnel vision will be key Sunday as he pursues a first major title at the PGA Championship with history-chasing Jordan Spieth on his heels.

"I've done all the hard work right now to get into contention, to have this lead," said the Australian, ranked fifth in the world.

"I just need to be patient with myself, need to make sure that I stay disciplined to my targets. It's all the boring stuff really."

Making it less boring is the man positioned as Day's most likely challenger.

The 22-year-old Spieth, the reigning Masters and US Open champion, can join Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods as the only men to win three majors in the same year with a victory -- and seize Rory McIlroy's world number one ranking into the bargain.

Their showdown on the par-72, 7,501-yard Whistling Straits course -- where they tee off at 1:45 p.m. (1845 GMT) promises plenty of fireworks, but Day said he won't be counting on a magic moment to deliver the first major title that has remained tantalizingly out of his grasp.

"The moment I start seeing what Jordan is doing or what (Justin) Rose is doing or the guys behind me are doing, the moment I see I've made a mistake here, I should have done this, I get in my own way -- and I can't let that happen," said Day, who had four birdies and an eagle -- and shook off a double-bogey -- on the back nine on Saturday to cement his first outright 54-hole lead at a major.

"I've been in position where I've been close to the lead going into Sunday, been tied for the lead. The US Open I was tied for the lead this year going into the last day.

"But to have a two-shot lead is pretty sweet," Day said.

Sweet, but not safe, with not only Spieth within striking distance.

Six players were within five shots of the lead. South Africa's Branden Grace -- who held a share of the lead on Sunday at the US Open before finishing tied for fourth -- shared third place with England's Rose on 204.

Germany's Martin Kaymer, seeking to reprise his 2010 PGA Championship victory on the same Whistling Straits course, was four shots back on 205.

And Australia's Matt Jones and American Tony Finau went into the final round five adrift on 206.
