VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Ashkan Dejagah looks set to make his debut for Iran in their home 2014 FIFA World Cup™ qualifier with Qatar tomorrow after playing all his youth international football for Germany. The 25-year-old was born in Tehran but has played for Germany at all youth levels from U-17 to U-21 - and was a member of the squad that won the European title in 2009 alongside players such as Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil. "I'm looking forward to this experience and will try to make the most of it," he said. Dejagah - who won the Bundesliga title with Wolfsburg in 2009 - has been called into the Iran squad before but injury or failure to get the correct visa in time has always delayed his debut. Dejagah controversially refused to play a German U-21 match in October 2007 against Israel, citing personal reasons and was only allowed to remain in the team after a meeting with German Football Federation (DFB) bosses. He has made 18 appearances in the Bundesliga this season scoring two goals.
