Copa Libertadores champions Corinthians continued to struggle in the Campeonato Brasileiro as they slipped to a 3-1 home defeat against Botafogo. Corinthians claimed their first Libertadores crown last week, but went into their latest league match with just one win from seven games and failed to improve on that tally. The hosts were one down at half-time thanks to Paulo Andre's own goal in the 28th minute and Elkeson's second-half double killed off the game. Chicao pulled one back from the spot in the dying moments, but it was not enough for Corinthians, who remained second bottom.
