Former Real Madrid and Spanish international football star Raúl is considering a lucrative summer move to Qatar, according to various media reports. The 34-year old striker, who is set to leave German club Schalke 04 when his contract expires at this end of the season, is rumoured to be joining a side in the Qatar Stars League. "My sporting future is not in Europe, but rather in another league not as strong as the [German league],” the player was quoted as saying. During a two-year spell at Schalke 04, Raúl hit the net 39 times in 98 goals. Prior to moving to Germany, Raúl spent 16 years with Real Madrid, scoring 228 times in 550 appearances for the Spanish giants. If Raúl does make the move to Qatar, he will be the latest in a number of high-profile European players who have joined Gulf football leagues in recent years. In 2010, Italian World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro joined Dubai’s Al Ahli Club, while Argentinean legend Diego Maradona is the current manager of Al Wasl in the Emirate.
