Lewis Hamilton topped the times during Friday's second free practice for Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix, the McLaren driver edging out Red Bull drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. The 2008 champion, third quickest in the morning session, set the pace from the get-go and eventually clocked a fastest time of one minute 13.392 after switching to soft tyres midway through the session. However, recently crowned double champion Vettel and Webber, fastest in the morning session, were hot on his heels and wound up second and third fastest respectively, and within 0.2 seconds of the Englishman's time. Two-times champion Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, who retired from the morning session after an engine failure, was fourth quickest followed by Mercedes driver and seven-times champion Michael Schumacher. Local hero Brazilian Felipe Massa was sixth in the second Ferrari ahead of Briton Jenson Button in the second McLaren. German Nico Rosberg followed in the second Mercedes ahead of Force India drivers Adrian Sutil and Scot Paul Di Resta who were ninth and tenth respectively.
