The 27th Summer Universiade due in July would be of the largest scale ever, head of the Kazan-2013 steering committee Vladimir Leonov said Tuesday. The Summer Universiade, to be held in the capital of Russia's Tatarstan republic from July 6-17, will receive over 13,500 athletes and officials from 170 countries and regions, Leonov told reporters. The athletes will compete in 27 sports with 351 medals up for grabs. The Russian national team consists of 1,000 athletes, Leonov said. The International Federation of Student Sport (FISU) will donate the delegations from the developing countries so they could participate in the games, according to the official. Besides, over 1,500 journalists, 20,000 volunteers will serve in Kazan. Media Director of Kazan-2013 Viliara Khasanova told Xinhua that about 100,000 visitors are expected during the games.
