Japan's Daisuke Matsuzaka posted his first victory of the season Monday as he helped the Boston Red Sox beat Kansas City 5-1 in his first start since returning from the injured list. Cody Ross drove in three runs for Boston in the final game of a four-game series which the Red Sox won three and lost one. In his first pitching start since early July, Matsuzaka lasted seven innings, giving up five hits and one unearned run with two walks and six strikeouts. Jacoby Ellsbury had a home run and scored twice for Boston. Matsuzaka allowed runners to reach base in every inning except the second. He was placed on the injured list after suffering a muscle strain in his right arm.
