Monty, Couples inducted to World Golf Hall of Fame

Colin Montgomerie and Fred Couples were inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame, highlights of a stellar 2013 class that also included veteran and lifetime achievement inductees. Last year, Sandy Lyle became the first living Scot to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was joined by two others this year, Montgomerie and Ken Schofield. "Thank you all for coming here this evening to celebrate what I think is the greatest game of them all, and I'm sure you all agree, a game that I started playing at the grand old age of five in Troon, Scotland," Montgomerie said late Monday. "Mind you, in Troon, Scotland, that's about all you do," he joked.Ken Venturi, Schofield and Willie Park were also inducted in this year's class. Venturi and Schofield were inducted via the Lifetime Achievement Category. Park was chosen via the Veterans Committee. Former Masters winner Couples will captain his third straight American Presidents Cup team this fall. Couples was a 15-time winner on the Tour and captured The Masters in 1992. He was also an assistant captain to Davis Love at the 2012 Ryder Cup. Couples won two Players Championships, was the PGA Tour Player of the Year twice and was the first US player to reach the world number one spot in the world golf rankings. From: AFP
