16-year-old star rookie Romano Fenati set the pace during day one of the Spanish Moto3 Grand Prix at Jerez. Unlike MotoGP, Moto3 got some decent dry running on Friday, the 250cc machines completing almost all of their Friday morning session on a dry track before the rain set in. Fenati, second after battling Maverick Vinales for victory in the Qatar season-opener, continued his flying form by leading FP1 by 0.248sec from fellow FTR-Honda rider Vinales. KTM's Sandro Cortese and the Suter Honda of Miguel Oliveira completed the top four, with Oliveira then setting the pace by 0.271sec from Cortese in the wet afternoon session. Vinales with third, while Team Italia FMI rider Fenati slipped to 21st in the slick conditions. Aspar's Hector Faubel, who briefly caused the morning session to be red flagged after injuring his leg in a fall, was back on track in the afternoon.
