The Russian ousted Bojana Jovanovsk of Serbia 6-4, 6-3 on the hard-court surface, winning 6-of-9 break points and carving out a decided advantage in points won on serve. Fourth-seeded Vania King of the United States topped fellow American Jennifer Elie 6-3, 6-4. In second-round action Tuesday, third-seeded Sloane Stephens of the United States advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 victory over Portugal's Michelle Larcher de Brito. The match was over in under 2 hours despite going three sets. Kai-Chen Chang of Taiwan moved into the quarters with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Johanna Larsson of Sweden.
