Prize money for this year's French Open has increased three millions euros to more than 28 million euros, the French tennis federation announced Tuesday.
The winners of the men's and women's singles titles at the May 19-June 7 Grand Slam event will each pocket 1.8 million euros, 150,000 euros up on last year, out of a total pot of 28,028,600 euros.
The most significant rise in prize money - more than 20 percent, comes, as it did in 2014, for the losers of matches in the second round, third round and quarter-finals, the federation added.
In comparison the season-opening Australian Open's prize money was 27.5 millions euros, while last year Wimbledon offered up 30.43 million and the US Open 28.1 million.
