Racing superstar Black Caviar wins 22nd race at Ascot

Black Caviar scrambled home to stretch her record to 22 wins from 22 races at Royal Ascot here on Saturday. The Australian superstar, ridden by Luke Nolan and trained by Peter Moody, edged the Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes from French runner Moonlight Cloud. Black Caviar cruised down the Ascot straight and appeared to have the race in the bag when hitting the front two furlongs out only for Nolan to ease her up yards from the line. With Moonlight Cloud and Restiadargent closing fast Nolan suddenly had to get to work to ensure the 1-6 favourite retained her unbeaten tag which she did but only by a nose. After returning to an ecstatic welcome from a crowd swelled by 5,000 visiting Australians Nolan explained: "I under-estimated the testing track at Ascot. "She'd had enough, her big engine was trying to ride down. Hopefully my performance won't overshadow what was a great performance. Moody remarked: "We came here to do that, to get the job done. We never expect dominance, she gets the job done and we're extremely proud of her."
