Randy Anderson, a former quarterback at Clemson University, died Tuesday in Houston after a long battle with cancer, the university said. He was 46. During most of his time at Clemson, from 1984-87, Anderson was backup quarterback to Rodney Williams, the Spartanburg (S.C.) Herald Journal reported. Anderson, who missed most of the 1987 season with an injured back, completed 76 of 145 passes for 866 yards and three touchdowns in 22 career games. In 2006, Anderson was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells. Later that year, complications from a double stem cell transplant led to leukemia. After he began receiving treatment, Anderson founded By His Stripes Ministry, a sports-themed Christian outreach program and remained as active as possible in the program for the rest of his life. "He was just a tremendous person, a godly man," former Clemson coach Danny Ford said. "He had his ministry that he worked through and did a lot of good things for a lot of good people." Many of his good deeds helped children. Anderson is survived by his wife, Angelia, and daughter, Savannah.
