Rock and Cena break records

This year's WrestleMania is set to break all records and become the most watched wrestling pay-per-view event in history. WWE have announced that the show — which took place in front of over 78,000 people at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami — is estimated to have drawn 1.3 million buys around the world. If that number proves to be correct then it will lead to a gross event sale of more than £42m, including ticket sales. WrestleMania 28, which took place on April 1, was a critical as well as commercial success. For the first time in years, the major critics gave it a general thumbs up. The Rock v John Cena feud, which has its root in a 2008 SunSport interview with Cena, was the main attraction, but the show also featured stellar bouts between CM Punk and Chris Jericho, and legends Triple H and The Undertaker. The previous highest buy rate for a grappling show came for WrestleMania 23, which was headlined by Cena v Shawn Michaels. That event took place in 2007 and drew approximately 1.25m buys worldwide. Wrestlemania 17, in Houston, was the first Mania to reach one million buys. Since then five more Manias have topped the million mark, but none have exceeded the estimated figure for this year’s extravaganza. THE SUN.
