
As athletes are competing for medals during the ongoing Rio Olympic Games, Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam will also join the cheer to support the Singapore team, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Wednesday.
Tan will be visiting Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games from Aug.11 to 15, during which he will also meet the Singaporean community in Brazil at a National Day Reception.
While he is away, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, Mr J Y Pillay, will exercise the functions of the office of the President for the period from Aug.11 to 17.
Also joining the president is Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, who will also be in Rio de Janeiro from Aug.11 to 13. Singapore has sent a team of 25 athletes at this year's Olympics.
