Sunderland manager David Moyes says defender Patrick van Aanholt was withdrawn from the team on Sunday just before the English Premier League game at Tottenham because of the results of tests on his heart.
Video footage of the match saw Van Aanholt's teammate inform the former that he will not feature in the game. This took place in the match venue during the warm up before game and led to questions being asked in the media as the defender looked shocked to hear from his teammate.
Moyes said Tuesday that he was advised by the FA cardiologists not to play the full back. Van Aanholt has had further tests and will return to London with the rest of the north-east club's squad for Wednesday's English League Cup game against Queens Park Rangers.
