Midfielder Cheick Tiote apologised to United's travelling army, after they suffered a shock 4-0 reversal at Wigan on Saturday. Around 4,500 fans made the trip to the DW Stadium, filling one of the stands behind the goal, but left disappointed having seen the Latics strike four times before the break through a Victor Moses double, Shaun Maloney and Franco Di Santo. Papiss Cisse twice struck the woodwork as Newcastle attempted a response, but there was little for the black and wite faithful to sing about as their side tasted defeat for only the first time in seven games. And with another away Premier League fixture on the horizon - at Chelsea on Wednesday night - Tiote wants to make that one a trip to remember for all involved "I am disappointed for the supporters," he told nufc.co.uk. "They came a long, long way to support us and there were so many of them. But we lost and we didn't score any goals, so it is a big shame for them. "We are thinking about Wednesday now, and hopefully we can give them something to cheer about at Chelsea. "Everyone was disappointed about the result, but I think we really didn't defend well as a team. That is all you can say really - there were too many goals conceded. "Our second half performance was better and we created some chances, so we will take the positives from that, but it was a shock. "Before this, we win every game and this one we lost heavily, so it was not good for the team. Everyone is disappointed, but it is finished now and we need to think about Chelsea on Wednesday."
