The 20-year-old only joined Leeds at the end of January and made three appearances for the Championship side during Neil Redfearn’s spell in charge as caretaker manager. However, with Kyle Walker withdrawing from the England squad due to injury, Redknapp needs extra cover at right-back. A statement on Leeds United’s official website read: “Tottenham defender Adam Smith has been recalled from his loan spell at Elland Road in order to provide cover at right-back for the Premier League side’s first-team.” Walker injured his ankle in Spurs’ 5-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday and despite completing the match, he has subsequently withdrawn from the England squad to face the Netherlands. Smith, who has had previous loan-spells at Wycombe Wanderers, Torquay United, Bournemouth and Milton Keynes Dons, has yet to make a first-team appearance for Spurs. That could be about to change, however. The full extent of Walker’s injury is currently unknown, meaning Smith could make his Premier League bow against Manchester United on Sunday. The east Londoner has already played for England’s under-21 side and is in the squad for their European Championship qualifier against Belgium on Wednesday.
