The 4th Ultimate Badminton Challenge: Super Challenge 2012 badminton tournament kicks off today at the Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital’s Olympia courts. Preceding the opening day matches is a grand opening program featuring student performers from The Studio headed by Gigi Divina and the comebacking Zephyr Band. The tournament attracted 42 clubs from all over the Kingdom vying for the coveted championship trophies and cash prizes in 22 categories in doubles and singles plus the special event above 45 men’s doubles. The Jeddah-based clubs seeing action are: Desert Falcons, Jaguars, Anta, Nitrox Group, Jeddah Slashers, D’Club Jaunty, Faisalliance, Zwoosh, Friday Boiz & Babes, Battledores, Elite, PHOG, PBB, Malaysian Club, Cosmos, BDP-Seniors-Juniors, Indian Tigers, Hataw, Brantas, KAIA, JSB, MSJ, D’ Smaikers, KAMC-BC, Fleeq, Indonesian Club, NCB Sharks, Pakistani Tigers, Red Sea Dragons, Trippers Flick, D’ Vampires, Shuttle Eagle & KAUST and the newly formed group Wilson’s Club. Joining them will be visiting clubs and players from Riyadh, Dammam and Assir regions namely PBC, Elite, Baddicts-Riyadh, COPS, RESC, SMASH-R, Ittefaq, and Raketeers. This year’s event is the fourth of the UBC Series dubbed as the biggest regional badminton event in Jeddah. It is being sponsored by Pepsi (SIPCO), represented by Ahmed Al Mehelmy, executive director for Sales and Marketing. Pepsi (SIPCO) is one of the major supporters of sports in the Kingdom. Minor sponsors are Avon, SriLankan Airlines, Jollibee, Kustom Arts (Leo Fajardo), Inihaw Kamayan Grill House (Rhic Briones), Shatira Restaurant (Romy Sumayao) and Friends of Smash Arabia. Organizing this event is the Smash Arabia Badminton Club headed by Chairman Alan Leonardo Exevea, Tournament Director Romy Capili, Technical Directors Roland Santos and Aldrin Madinah, PRO Bob Fernandez, Accountant Candy Exevea, Treasurer Abby Asiatico, Lights & Sounds Eko Yingyom and Program Head Joseff Santiago.
