
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 struck the Pacific off northeastern Japan on Tuesday morning, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency to issue an advisory against tsunami for Iwate Prefecture.
A 20-centimeter wave caused by the quake was observed at Kuji port in Iwate roughly an hour after the quake, while a 10-centimeter wave was observed in Miyako, Iwate, according to Japan's News Agency (Kyodo).
The quake occurred at 8:06 a.m. and originated in the Pacific Ocean around 210 kilometers east of Miyako, at a depth of around 10 km. It registered 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in parts of Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi and Akita prefectures.
