Albanian Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri on Tuesday launched an appeal to citizens to cooperate with the State Police in the fight against environmental crime across the country.
At a news conference, Tahiri said Albania should end the long chapter of environmental destruction once and for all. The government will address this historic need together with the citizens, he said.
Tahiri appealed to citizens and construction companies to consider the fact that building without permit means committing a crime which carries a punishment.
“I appeal to anyone involved in construction activities and to any construction firm to verify the legitimacy of the sites. The State Police are authorized to open legal proceedings against any environmental crime and person involved in criminal activity,” he said.
“Building without permit is a crime. Any means transporting construction materials will be halted and those involved will be held accountable,” Tahiri added.
