Nearly 20 ha of forests have been destroyed in the province of Tipasa (70-km west of Algiers), following the blazes that broke out in several forests in the region, said Saturday the Civil Protection.
These fires affected the wooded areas of Gouraya, Fouka, Sidi Amar, Damous and Tipasa, according to the source, which does not rule out the hypothesis that "the scorching heat that hit the region on Friday was the main cause of these forest fires and their spread."
Tipasa's Civil Protection units also extinguished 8 fires that broke out in different forests of the province for "unknown reasons," the source added.
