A fire that burned for more than a day on an oil production platform off Louisiana's coast was extinguished early Saturday, the Coast Guard said, ABC News reported.
The fire was on a platform in Breton Sound near environmentally delicate barrier islands off the state's southeast coast. It was reported out around 6 a.m. after firefighting crews boarded the platform, Petty Officer Carlos Vega said.
The fire had been reported at 2:50 a.m. Friday by an offshore supply vessel that evacuated 28 workers.
No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard reported that a light sheen of oil near the site appeared to be dissipating and moving away from the Breton National Wildlife Refuge on the nearby barrier islands.
