
Hundreds of hectares of forest and crop have been destroyed by fire across the country during the last week-end, marked by an intense heat wave, said Sunday the Civil Protection.
Last Friday and Saturday, the Civil Protection services have identified the outbreak of 57 forest fires causing the destruction of 334 hectares of Aleppo pine and 39 fires that destroyed 201 hectares of mountain, according to the same source.
Moreover, the Civil Protection service reported the outbreak of 61 crop fires, destroying 37.5 hectares of wheat, 10,010 bundles of straw and 7,168 fruit trees, the same source said, noting that 11 urban and industrial fires occurred during this period in the provinces of Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Medea, M'sila, Mostaganem and Chlef, without causing victims.
Over the weekend, 22 people died and 65 were injured in 22 road accidents across the country, the Civil Protection said, deploring moreover, the death of 5 people in the beaches where swimming is banned.
