Kuwait's 6th Waste Management Conference and Exhibition concluded on Thursday, with a package of recommendations namely treating solid waste. Adnan Mehsen, in charge of the environmental affairs department of the municipality, confirmed in remarks to KUNA that the municipality recommended upgrading mechanisms of managing waste, namely solid materials. One of the most important proposed projects is transforming solid waste into electric energy, through launching BOT ventures, affirmed Mehsen, also noting necessity of setting up safe dumping sites, rehabilitating closed dumping locations and mapping out a strategy for the disposition of remains of the consumed materials. The conferees advised for re-examination of all laws related to waste management, or issuing new legislations to regularize the sector. They also called for creating environmental educational curriculums.
