The Embassy of Kuwait here has issued on Friday a statement warning Kuwaitis in Japan of the approach of Super Typhoon Vongfong -- the strongest tropical cyclone of the year --to the Japanese landmass.
The statement cautioned against venturing outside and advised staying at home and keeping away from dangerous places. It said the consulate at the embassy was ready to answer any queries from Kuwaitis about the Typhoon and gave out the following contact number : 0334550361, stressing that the embassy would be open 24 hours a day for that purpose.
Vongfong's winds were estimated at a steady 150 mph, equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane in the US. The storm will continue to weaken slowly as it moves north, according weather reports, losing super typhoon status but still packing a powerful punch by the time it approaches the islands of Kadena and Okinawa in Japan.
It is safe to say that Vongfong is the strongest storm on earth since Haiyan last year which was the super typhoon that killed more than 6,000 people in the Philippines last November. (
