
A trunk road linking Tibet with neighboring Sichuan Province was blocked by a landslide Sunday morning, after a minor earth tremor hit Nyingchi Region in Tibet. The earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter Scale hit Nyingchi Prefecture in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region at midnight, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The landslide occurred at about 8:50 a.m. and left debris blocking a 75-meter section of the Sichuan-Tibet road near Tongmai Bridge in Nyingchi. No casualties were reported. By 2 p.m., about 300 vehicles and 1,000 people were stranded on the road, according to local traffic police. Road maintenance workers are working to clear the road. Police said traffic is expected to resume before dusk.
