A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook the south of Kamchatka at 19.10 local time (06.10 Hours GMT) on Friday, the Geophysical Service at the Russian Academy of Sciences said. The epicenter of the tremor was located 77 kilometers off the Paratunka spa known for its pools of volcanic hot water. The seismic focus lay at a depth of 153 kilometers, the service reported. No visible aftermaths of the quake were registered in the Kamchatka peninsula. Kamchatka along with the Kurile islands belongs to the Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquakes rock the crust almost every day.
