A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, the Malaysian News Agency announced.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said that the epicentre was located at 2.6 degrees north and 96 degrees east, 25km southeast of Simeulue, Indonesia and 541km southwest of Lumut, Perak, Malaysia The agency reported no tsunami threats.
