The encroachments around Lake Manzala were removed after eradicating the criminal hotbeds that controlled the lake, said Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab.
He added that the lake inlets were being cleaned up to increase its productivity.
"The current fish production of the lake is 50,000 tons and it is expected to increase to 80,000 tons after developing the lake," Mahlab said.
Lake Manzala is a brackish lake, in northeastern Egypt on the Nile Delta near Port Said. It is the largest of the northern deltaic lakes of Egypt and a main source of fish wealth.
