
Renewable energy is expected to represent 37 percent of the total energy output by 2035, a well-placed source at the Electricity Ministry said.
In statements to MENA on Wednesday, the source said the ministry worked for more than a year to lay down a strategy that aims at changing tack from using natural gas and petroleum substances to depending on various energy sources, including renewable energy.
He said Egypt depends by 90 percent on natural gas and diesel oil to produce electricity and the alternative in necessary as there would be shortage in petroleum substances within the coming years.
He said the ministry is working on several projects in this respect, referring to the Kuraymat power plant - the first thermal solar station in the Middle East region.
