Shallow quake strikes off Aceh, Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 5.8 Richter scale jolted Aceh province in northern tip of Sumatra Island earlier Monday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here. The quake struck at 00:32 a.m. Jakarta time Monday (1732 GMT Sunday) with epicenter at 65 km southwest Aceh Barat of the province and with a depth of 14 km under seabed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone. Indonesia sits on a quake-hit zone known as "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
