A powerful snowstorm has hit Slovenia, closing down schools in some areas and causing traffic restrictions as the small Alpine nation went on alert to cope with the blizzard, AP reported.
Authorities say Thursday's storm is the biggest this winter. They say heavy snowfall and strong winds hit the west of the country first but it is expected to spread to the entire territory by Friday.
Traffic authorities closed three border crossings for truck traffic to prevent road pileups. Drivers have been warned to be ready for delays and to fill their tanks before taking off.
Authorities have told the citizens to stay indoors if possible. So far, schools have closed in two municipalities in the west, but more are expected to follow on Friday.
