A tornado moved through the outskirts of Venice, uprooting trees and flipping dozens of boats but missed the city of canals, Italian officials said. The tornado brought down a wall at the Venezia soccer stadium, damaged the Morosini naval academy and destroyed a rowing clubhouse Tuesday, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Wednesday. Emergency medical personnel said only one person was injured, a boy on Sant'Elena Island who suffered a non-life-threatening head wound. Officials said 15 sailing students were trapped for a while inside a boat warehouse because of a fallen tree. Slightly more than 1 square mile of agricultural land was destroyed on Sant'Erasmo Island, causing about $1.25 million in damage, Coldiretti, the Italian farmers association, said. The damage has created "a real disaster that poses a serious threat to this year's production," Coldiretti said.
