After a fire broke out near Dubai Mall, roads across the emirate came close to a standstill on Sunday due to traffic diversions and traffic accidents.
On Sunday morning, Dubai Police closed Interchange 7 leading to Burj Khalifa, as vehicle were diverted to Fashion Avenue at Dubai Mall, in adition to closing a section of Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard from the cinema parking towards the flyover.
Motorists along the roads of Al Khail and Ras Al Khor barely moved due to traffic diversions, causing massive tailbacks on the roads surrounding Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard, including Business Bay Bridge
A traffic accident was reported at around 9am, and further delays were also caused by reckless and impatient motorists
An accident also occurred on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) Road near the Dubai-Al Ain Road intersection, heading towards Abu Dhabi, which caused another major tailback on Dubai’s roads
Within one hour, another accident took place on MBZ Road at the Dubai-AlAin Road intersection, with Dubai Police advising motorists to drive with extra caution
Heavy traffic also chocked MBZ Road heading towards Sharjah due to a multiple car pile-up.
