Rain will start to fall on Korea Monday night as an unusually late-season typhoon approaches. The Korea Meteorological Administration said the 24th typhoon of the year, Danas, is moving northward fast and is expected to pass through the Korea Strait on Tuesday night, according to Korea’s (KBS WORLD) website. Over 150 millimeters of rain is forecast through Wednesday for the south and east coasts of South Gyeongsang and in the mountains of Jeju Island. Rainfall between 20 and 100 millimeters is expected in the Gyeongsang inlands, Jeolla and Chungcheong Provinces. Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and western Gangwon Province will see about ten to 50 millimeters. The weather agency says strong winds of up to 30 meters per second will blow in Jeju Island and the south coast and high waves are expected as well. Danas is likely the first October typhoon in 15 years for the Korean Peninsula.
