Typhoon neoguri heading north off Japan's Kyushu

Typhoon Neoguri is moving northward off Japan's Kyushu region, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The storm knocked out electricity to about 60,000 households on islands along its path.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says the typhoon was located over the East China Sea, west of Kyushu at noon Wednesday. It was moving northward at 25 kilometers an hour, according to (NHK World).
The agency rated Neoguri as "large and strong" as of Wednesday, with a central atmospheric pressure of 965 hectopascals. Its maximum wind speed was 180 kilometers per hour.
Neoguri has brought developed rainclouds over the region, and the southwestern islands of Okinawa and Amami as it passed by.
Yomitan Village on Okinawa's main island recorded an unprecedented 96.5 millimeters of rainfall per hour on Wednesday morning.
Local governments on the island have received dozens of reports of floods and landslides. The weather agency issued emergency warnings for heavy rain for the island.
About 300,000 people in four cities in Okinawa were advised to evacuate.
Weather officials are calling on people to act appropriately following information from municipalities on evacuation.
