European Union President Herman Van Rompuy said Thursday he believes Spain will remain a single nation even as Catalan leaders announced plans for an independence poll on November 9, 2014. "I am confident that Spain will remain a united and reliable member state of our European Union," he said in a joint news conference in Madrid alongside Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
