Police: Canada shooter planned to go to Syria

The shooter who rampaged through Canada's parliament in Ottawa was in the city applying for a passport to travel to Syria and acted alone, the federal police commissioner said Thursday.
The man's killing of a soldier at a cenotaph in downtown Ottawa and the storming of parliament Wednesday were not linked to an attack on a soldier in Quebec two days earlier, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commissioner Bob Paulson told a news conference.
