Solis elected as Costa Rica's new president

Historian Luis Guillermo Solis, a political centrist, was elected president with more than 70 percent of votes in Costa Rica's runoff vote Sunday, the first third-party candidate to win in decades. Solis won 77.69 percent of the ballots, electoral officials said with more than half of polling stations reporting.
