Spy chief denies UK listening to majority of people´s emails, calls

The head of Britain's electronic eavesdropping service on Thursday denied that the agency was listening to the majority of domestic email and telephone conversations, in the wake of the leaks from Edward Snowden. In rare testimony before lawmakers, Iain Lobban, head of GCHQ, said: "We do not spend our time listening to the telephone calls or reading the emails of the majority, of the vast majority. It would not be proportionate, it would not be legal, we do not do it."
