US backs universal suffrage for Hong Kong

The United States on Tuesday threw its weight behind pro-democracy protestors in Hong Kong after Beijing refused to grant the territory's residents full voting rights.
"The United States supports universal suffrage in Hong Kong in accordance with the Basic Law and the aspirations of the Hong Kong people," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
