Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Petroleum Affairs and Head of the Saudi Program for Energy Efficiency, stated that the transport sector consumes about 23% of the total energy in the kingdom.
He said that about 12 million vehicles consume about 811,000 barrels of gasoline and diesel per day.
The remarks came in a speech the day before yesterday during the signing of memoranda of understanding between the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Commission and a large number of manufacturers of light vehicles.
Under the memo, the companies shall be committed to the Saudi standard for fuel economy in new vehicles (Saudi CAFE).
