Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Essam Fayed said that the ministry is currently implementing a plan to tap into new fruit and vegetable markets, particularly in Europe and Asia.
The plan will help increasing the state revenues of foreign currency to cater for the country's needs of foodstuff imports, the minister said in a statement.
Egypt's total exports of fruits and vegetables reached 12,152 tons on Tuesday, he said, adding that the exports of vegetables amounted to 9,701 tons, while the fruit exports reached 2,451 tons.
Since January, the total amount of Egypt's exports of fruits and vegetables exceeded 840,000 tons, while its exports of clover seeds reached 1,414 tons so far, the minister said.
The Egyptian exports of agricultural products; potatoes, citrus fruits, strawberry and grapes, notably grew to reach 922,630 tons this season, compared to the last season.
