Preparations are under way for the completion of the “Land of Civilizations” project at Al-Qara Mountain in the east of Al-Ahsa oasis. It is expected to open within the next two months.
Abdul Latif Al-Afaleq, chairman of the Tourism Committee in the Al-Ahsa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that Al-Qara Mountain was a natural landmark closely linked to the history of the area and that it is classified among the wonders of the world.
“The Land of Civilizations Project aims to develop the main cave of the mountain, establish a service region in the surrounding area which will be a regional tourist destination,” he said. “It is classified as a cultural, historical, tourism and educational project.”
The project highlights both history and culture as it was founded on the idea of integrating human history and natural history. The project represents the geological formation of the mountain, which has resulted in links and connections to the identity of Al-Ahsa, Al-Afaleq explained.
He said the project was a restoration of part of the the historical identity of the Arabian Peninsula. It combines the natural history of the land represented by the mountain and its caves, and the history of the universe and man, confirming that the project highlights the relationship between man, civilization and evolution from the beginning of creation up to the present.
The project shows the public a view of the history of Al-Ahsa from ancient times. It informs them of most prominent civilizations in the region, he said, confirming that it shows that the Kingdom is one of the cradles of civilizations.
The 24,615 square meter project includes a theater which will accommodate 200 spectators, cave, interior cave, long tracks, the Ashaj bin Abdul Qays Mosque, Hozba Cafe, restaurants, and parking lots in addition to well-equipped halls for multiple uses.
