The Economic and Social Conference of Youth, to be held Monday and Tuesday in Algiers will present an opportunity to review and assess the Algerian policies for youth, said Minister of Youth Abdelkader Khomri.
During this conference, “new approaches will be defined for a better management of youth’s concerns, help boost growth and achieve the participative democracy," Khomri said in an interview to APS.
Also, it will help the experts of the officials of mechanisms of support to young company creators to assess their actions, the minister added while affirming that the support to youth in rural and remote areas will be at the centre of the meeting.
In the segment of the elimination of unemployment, the minister noted that "the public sector is no longer the sector that reduced unemployment. In Algeria or elsewhere, the elimination of unemployment needs strong and developed Industry, Agriculture and Tourism."
"Algeria has significant assets and potentials in these three segments: Industry, Agriculture and Tourism, and should exploit them wisely to build a strong national economy independent from oil revenues," said the Minister.
The President’s choice "to promote the Industry sector," by intensifying the productive investments and reviving foreign partnerships "is a step of great importance," said Khomri, citing as an example the Renault and Mercedes plants.
Moreover, and as part of the government efforts to support the youth, the minister stressed “the willingness to associate the scientific competences at the Algerian universities to boost the scientific research and tighten their relations with the business world in order to mobilize the means necessary to the country’s development.”
The minister has also underlined that "Algeria welcomes the national competences established abroad so they can actively contribute in the economic renewal.”
